Anomaly Detection

Automatically Flag Unexpected Values to Catch Data Entry Mistakes and Potential Equipment Issues in Real Time

Updated yesterday

Overview

By analyzing historical data trends for each asset field, Limble identifies entries that don’t follow expected patterns, like a meter reading that suddenly drops or a number that looks out of range. Alerts appear directly within the task, so technicians can quickly confirm or correct the value.

Premium+ and Enterprise customers can use this built-in safeguard to improve data accuracy, reduce errors, and ensure more reliable asset tracking.

This article will teach you how anomaly detection works, and how to enable the feature.

Table of Contents

Enable the Feature

By default, the feature is turned off and must be enabled by a Super User.

  1. Navigate to Settings > Configuration > Smart Features.

  2. Turn on the toggle next to "Enable unexpected value detection."

How It Works

Once enabled, the system will analyze numerical entries linked to asset fields within a task and check for two primary scenarios:

  1. Change in a trend (e.g., runtime hours or fluid levels that are always increasing that suddenly go down)

  2. Outside a normal range (e.g., temperature, pressure values within an expected threshold)

There must be at least 5 historical values for the asset field in order for Limble to establish a baseline and detect when a new value doesn’t follow expected trends.

When an unexpected value is detected:

  1. An alert appears in the task form, drawing attention to the anomaly.

  2. The user can either:

    1. Edit the entry – if the re-entry is within expected parameters, the alert is resolved.

    2. Confirm the value – if the value is correct despite being unexpected, a persistent tag is added to indicate the anomaly. This helps managers review flagged data more easily. This tag also persists once the task is completed.

  3. No action is required and the user can complete the task without acknowledging the alert.

    1. If an alert is not acknowledged and the task is completed, the alert is still shown on the completed task to indicate an unexpected value was detected.
