Overview

We offer the ability to create QR codes to easily manage your assets, parts, and more.

However, if you already have existing barcodes and prefer to continue using them, you can easily add and use them with Limble.

This article will teach you how to use your existing bar codes with Limble.

Table of Contents

Add "Barcode" Field to Limble

The first step is to add a field for your barcodes.

Navigate to the Manage Assets or Manage Parts page depending on which items you are using barcodes for.

Click on the edit visible columns tool. Scroll down and click "Add Column."

In the new window, name your field "Barcode" or something to indicate this will be used for barcodes.

The system will locate your barcodes regardless of the field name you choose, but make sure to select a name that your team can easily recognize.

Then, select "Text" for your field type and click "Create."

Perform a Bulk Update or a Bulk Import

Once you've created the barcode field, you can associate it with your assets or parts.

The process will depend on if your assets and parts are already in the system.

Bulk Update

  • To add barcodes to assets, from the Manage Assets page select "Bulk Actions." From the dropdown, select "Update Assets."

  • To add barcodes to parts, from the Manage Parts page select "Actions." From the dropdown, select "Update Parts."

In the new window, download your list by clicking the blue text. Then, open the file.

Enter the barcodes for your assets or parts in the "Barcode" column. This corresponds to the field you already created in Limble.

Save your file and navigate back to the update screen. Click "Upload File."

Select your file. In the new screen, click "Confirm."

Your barcodes will now be added to Limble!

Bulk Import

  • From the Manage Assets page, select "Import/Export." From the dropdown, select "Import Assets."

  • From the Manage Parts page, select "Import/Export." From the dropdown, select "Import Parts."

In the new window, download the sample spreadsheet by clicking "Sample Import File." Then, open the file.

Populate the other fields as directed, then look for "Optional Custom Fields."

Rename the "Optional Custom Fields" column to be "Barcode" to correspond with the field you already created in Limble. Add your barcodes in the rows below.

Make sure the column name in the import file exactly matches the field name in Limble. Spelling or grammar errors will bypass the intended field match.

Save your file and navigate back to the import screen. Click "Upload File."

Select your file. In the new screen, click "Confirm."

Your asset/parts and their barcodes will now be added to Limble!

Use Your Barcodes

Once your barcodes are added to Limble, you're ready to use them.

From the mobile app, click on "Scan QR Code."

You can also use the same function when looking up an asset or part by clicking on the QR code icon.

When the camera appears, you can scan your barcode and the corresponding part or asset card will appear.
